Poplar Masses is the stage name of Faisal Bhabha, an Ontario-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Faisal has been making music since the mid-90s, primarily as the leader of the power-pop-punk trio the Guy. With the aid of long-time, friend, collaborator and producer, Dean Marino (papermaps) Faisal has completed the eponymous Poplar Masses, his first full-length solo effort. The album is an eclectic mix of songs that have been floating around as bedroom demos for decades to songs that emerged and came to full fruition in the studio. Unlike his work with the Guy, a traditional rock band, Poplar Masses takes full advantage of the "studio as instrument and musical sandbox" approach. Utilizing talented session musicians and traditional studio techniques while eschewing modern "in-the-box" approaches for authentic performances, Poplar Masses is an uncompromising first statement.
